Importance of Organisational Behaviour
Organisations are extremely complex entities and not easy to understand. They shape the nature of society and in return they are shaped by society. The life of everyone in today’s society is affected by the existence and behavior of organization. We spend probably half of our lives in the organisations. For most of this time, we try to come to terms with hoe an organization functions, how it affects our behavior and how in turn, we affect the behavior of others. This the study of organizational behavior is important to study due to following reasons:
- It helps an individual to understand himself and his associates so that imterpersonal relations get improved.
- The areas of improvement are attitude, perception, leadership, communication, conflict etc. which change largely in their functioning
- It helps the manager to induce motivation in his subordinates for doing better work.
- It helps in creating cordial relationship between manager and his subordinates as often the indifferent attitude of the manager makes his subordinate lazy and irritating.
- Sometimes the relation between management and workers become strained due to some personal ego which should be tackled humanly.
- It helps to understand the cause, provide course of action and then control its result.
- It also helps in the area of marketing as it provide awareness to the individual and amend social processes for the success of the organization.
- Marketing process also depends upon the learning of responses of individual and groups.
- It also provide manager how to predict behavior and apply in the organization to make it more effective.
- It is a discipline which makes management effective to deal with human resource to get higher productivity and better results.
Limitations of O.B.
- People who lack understanding of the system may develop a behavioural bias. Behavioural bias refers to fact that sometimes concern for employees may overshadow the needs of the organisation.
- Organisational behavior cannot abolish conflict and frustration but can only reduce them. It is a way to improve but not an absolute answer to problems.
- It has not contributed much regarding improving industrial relations as workers has not stopped strikes or layout even after many orientation programmes.
- It is said organizational behavior is descriptive about behavior already taken but it is not able to prevent it recurrence.
- It simply serves the interest of the management by putting emphasis on motivation, efficiency and productivity only.
- People can misuse the knowledge of communication or motivation and unethically manipulate people.
